EETN is committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive environment for scientific exchange. This Code of Conduct sets expectations for behaviour in EETN activities and spaces.
Scope
This Code applies to all EETN-related activities and spaces, including:
* conferences, workshops, webinars, meetings, social events, and any event platforms;
* EETN online spaces (website, mailing lists, community channels, submission systems);
* membership and volunteer activities, committees, and leadership work.
It applies to members, attendees, speakers, organizers, volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors, partners, collaborators and vendors.
Expected behavior
We expect everyone to:
* treat others with respect, professionalism, and consideration;
* communicate constructively, including during disagreement;
* respect personal boundaries and stop unwanted behavior when asked;
* follow event rules, venue policies, and instructions from organizers;
* help create an inclusive environment (e.g., allow others to speak, avoid exclusionary conduct).
Unacceptable behavior
Unacceptable behavior includes, but is not limited to:
* harassment, intimidation, bullying, or stalking (in person or online);
* discriminatory or demeaning conduct or language targeting a protected characteristic;
* sexual harassment, unwelcome sexual attention, or inappropriate physical contact;
* threats of violence, encouragement of self-harm, or incitement;
* deliberate disruption of talks/events, sustained heckling, or hostile conduct;
* sharing someone’s private information without consent (“doxxing”);
* unwanted photography/recording of individuals after they ask you to stop;
* retaliation against anyone who reports a concern in good faith
Scientific debate and academic freedom
EETN supports open scientific discussion, including critical review of ideas and results. This must be done respectfully, focusing on the work—not personal attacks, humiliation, or discriminatory behavior
Reporting
If you experience or witness a violation, please report it as soon as possible.
How to report

* If you feel unsafe or there is an immediate risk, contact local emergency services first.
What to include (if you can):
* what happened, when/where, and who was involved;
* any witnesses or supporting materials (screenshots, photos, messages).
Reports can be made by the affected person or a witness.
Response and enforcement
EETN will review reports promptly (highest priority) and act as appropriate to the situation. Actions may include:
* a private warning and required behavior change;
* removal from a session or event without refund (where applicable);
* limiting participation (e.g., chat restrictions, badge removal);
* cancellation of a talk/booth/role;
* suspension or termination of membership benefits;
* contacting venue security or law enforcement when necessary.
EETN may take action even without a formal complaint if organizers become aware of credible concerns.
Confidentiality and data handling
We will treat reports with discretion and share information only with those who need it to respond, comply with law, or ensure safety. We may keep records of reports and outcomes for safety and accountability purposes in line with our Privacy Policy.
Anti-retaliation
Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern or participates in an investigation in good faith is prohibited and may result in sanctions.
Accessibility and accommodations
EETN aims to make events accessible. Requests for reasonable accommodations should be sent to info@eetn.gr as early as possible so we can plan appropriately.
Photography, recording, and online participation
If EETN records sessions, we will disclose this in advance (e.g., registration page, signage).
Participants should not record others in a way that violates consent, venue rules, or this Code.
Online participants must follow chat/Q&A moderation rules; abusive or disruptive posts will be removed
Sponsors and exhibitors
Sponsors, exhibitors, and vendors are expected to follow this Code. Promotional activity must be appropriate for a professional scientific setting. Harassment or discriminatory conduct in sponsor/exhibitor contexts is not tolerated.
Acknowledgment
Participation in EETN activities constitutes agreement to comply with this Code and with organizer instructions intended to maintain safety, inclusion, and the integrity of scientific exchange.
